Team riders represent at the Red Bull Manny Mania
posted Saturday, June 27th, 2009Four Tactics team riders headed to Portland yesterday for the Red Bull Manny Mania held in Pioneer Square. Nick Propios, Justin James, Zach Bird, and Drew Banks met up with Oudalay Philavanh, who was already in Portland and qualified on his own, at the invite-only contest. Word from the team manager was that everybody skated super good, but it was Zach and Nick who impressed the judges, taking second and fourth, respectively. Red Bull Skateboarding has posted photos and videos of the event on their site, but be sure to check out the photos TM Eric Sutton shot below.
Congrats riders!
Red Bull’s Manny Mania stops in Portland
posted Thursday, June 25th, 2009The second stop of Red Bull’s Manny Mania Am contest is making its way to Portland’s Pioneer Square tomorrow. Several Tactics riders will be hopping in the van and making their way to P-Town bright and early tomorrow morning. Nicky P, Justin James, Drew B and Zach Bird will be representing Tactics while battling it out with the Northwest’s finest on the manny pads. ZB is coming off a great showing at last weeks éS Game of Skate; he barely missing the finals. There’s always next year.
Red Bull is also sponsoring a Mixed Media Art Show benefiting the Burnside Skate Park Project, which takes place from 7-11PM at Nemo HQ located at 1875 SE Belmont St. Exhibiting artists include Jon Humphries, Chet Childress, Gus Van Sant and Rick Charnowski. Cost to attend is free and proceeds from the show go directly to the Burnside Skate Park Project. It should be a great time, so check it out and support skateboarding if you’re in the neighborhood.
To all the Tactics riders, good luck homeys!
Eugene, Or éS Game of Skate recap
posted Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009Tactics hosted the éS Game of Skate on Friday, June 19th under the Washington-Jefferson Bridge, which is the future home of the planned skatepark, or ‘play area’ as the Register-Guard calls it. Nearly 70 skaters showed up to test their skills against Oregon’s finest and it was Portland’s own Bobby Groves who came out on top with a switch laser flip (what!?) to seal the deal; Groves placed second at Hood River’s Game of Skate.
Transworld has a quick recap, some good photos, and a short video for your viewing pleasure, although it’s eerily similar to the éS Journal post. Congrats to Bobby Groves as he earned himself an all-expenses paid trip to compete at the 2009 éS Game of Skate Amateur World Championships in California.
