Bones Bearings releases two new models
By Benson | June 25, 2009
SkateOne, makers of Bones Wheels and Bearings, released two new models of bearings this past spring. In addition to the original Reds, one of the best selling skateboard bearings of all time, SkateOne now offers the Super Reds and Ceramic Super Reds at the $25 and $75 price point, respectively.
Not just Reds with better super finishing (surface polishing), Super Reds have been designed from the ground up using superior parts like higher quality steel racers, better grade balls, and a better surface finish. What does this mean for all you skaters? A bearing that is just as fast as the original Reds but rides smoother, quieter and lasts longer.
For those of you not affected by these tough economic times, Bones released their Ceramic Super Reds at the $75 price point. What’s the difference between the Super Reds and Ceramic Super Reds? Bones swapped the steel balls for grade 5, silicone nitride, hot isostatic-pressed ceramic balls … What? Basically, ceramic balls are superior to steel ball bearings because they’re lighter, provide faster acceleration, and last even longer than conventional steel ball bearings. Also, ceramic balls don’t rust, further lengthening their life.
If you’re looking for a solid bearing but don’t have much cash, the original Reds are still the best value out there. If you need a faster, longer lasting bearing, the new Super Reds is where it’s at. And lastly, if you want an insanely fast bearing but don’t want to drop $125 on the Swiss Ceramics, the Ceramic Super Reds will handle anything you throw at it.
