Algalita Marine Research Foundation

The Algalita Marine Research Foundation (AMRF) is dedicated to the protection of the marine environment and its watersheds through research, education, and restoration. AMRF is engaged solely in (1) Protection of the marine environment and its watersheds, through investigative research on the impact of plastic marine pollution; and (2) Providing authoritative, educational findings to the public, private and scientific communities.
Outdoor Outreach

Outdoor Outreach is a southern California-based organization whose mission is to empower at-risk and underprivileged youth to make positive, lasting changes in their lives through comprehensive outdoor programming. Outdoor Outreach programs support underserved youth who are at risk for school dropout, substance abuse, violence and unintended pregnancy. Outdoor Outreach is one of just a few organizations in the country to utilize outdoor physical experiences to provide youth with the support, relationships, resources and opportunities they need to become successful adults. Since its founding in 1999, Outdoor Outreach has taken more than 5,000 youth on over 1,500 outings, including rock climbing, snowboarding, surfing, snorkeling, mountain biking and backpacking.
Elemental Awareness

As a non-profit youth based organization, the mission of Elemental Awareness is to reach out to youth through the avenues of skateboarding and education, in order to develop self-esteem, awareness, and the tools to lead successful lives. The organization is founded upon the belief that a person can positively impact their world through active involvement in their passions. Participants in Elemental Awareness programs gain unforgettable life experiences in a myriad of ways including winning scholarships to skate camps, learning about wild animals, meeting professional skateboarders, learning to build natural shelters and friction fires and so much more.
Surfrider Foundation

The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 50,000 members and 80 chapters worldwide. Surfrider is based on several foundational principles, including promoting the right of low-impact, free and open access to the world’s waves and beaches for all people and enhancing wave-riding opportunities in ways which will not adversely impact near-shore ecosystems. Surfrider believes environmental education is essential to the future health and well being of the planet. The organization also seeks to develop and utilize educational materials that are informative, factual, proactive, synergistic and fun.
Save the Waves Coalition

Save the Waves is an environmental coalition dedicated to preserving the world’s surf spots and their surrounding environments. Their goal is to preserve and protect surfing locations around the planet and to educate the public about their value. Save the Waves works in partnership with local communities, foreign and national governments, as well as other conservation groups to prevent coastal development from entering the surf zone. Save the Waves uses many tactics to promote the argument that surf spots have a very high social and economic value. The group’s objective is to achieve the goal of complete surf spot protection. To do so, they often create alliances with local or international environmental organizations, and join forces to create a campaign that will most effectively ensure the protection of surfing resources.
Port Orford Ocean Resource Team

The Port Orford Ocean Resource Team (POORT) is a non-profit organization based in Port Orford, Oregon. The mission of the organization is to engage Port Orford fishers and other community members in developing and implementing a strategic plan and framework that ensures the long-term sustainability of the Port Orford reef ecosystem and social system dependent on it. POORT’s vision is to maintain a sustainable fishery on the Port Orford Reef that utilizes the best science and local experiential knowledge for the community to make local fishery management decisions that sustain and improve the habitat or population base of fish, provide high quality, high value sea food products to consumers, and, support the economic viability of the Port Orford community.
Protect Our Winters

Protect Our Winters (POW) is dedicated to reversing the global warming crisis by uniting the winter sports community and focusing our collective efforts towards a common goal. Climate change is a serious issue for all of us who are passionate about our winter sports and in some cases, it’s how we make our living. If we harness our collective energy and put forth a focused effort, we can have a direct influence on reversing the damage that’s been done and ensure that winters are here for generations behind us.
SIMA Environmental Fund

The SIMA Environmental Fund was created to serve as the environmental arm of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association by raising funds from the public through fundraisers and solicitations and using such funds to promote ecological and environmental organizations whose efforts are focused on enhancing the oceanic environment. The SIMA Environmental Fund operates through a grant-making program as a charitable non-profit foundation. Since its creation in 1989, more than $4 million in grants have been awarded to various environmental groups through the SIMA Environmental Fund.
Action Sports Environmental Coalition

Action Sports Environmental Coalition (ASEC) is an organization founded and supported by action sports athletes, industry leaders, participants, and natural products companies. Key supporters such as Bob Burnquist, Jen O’Brien, Danny Way, Geoff Rowley, Rob Machado, Cara Beth Burnside and hundreds of others, as well as industry leaders like Volcom, Quiksilver, Planet Earth, Element, Etnies, Tactics, and many more have asked themselves the question: “How can we utilize our collective power to do our part to improve life quality and evolve the industrial consciousness of our planet?” ASEC is the action sports industry’s response to that question! ASEC works to inspire the action sports industry and its participants to value and take action toward social and environmental responsibility.

Conservation Alliance

The Conservation Alliance’s mission is to engage outdoor businesses to help protect and conserve threatened wild places for their habitat and recreation values. The Alliance is a group of outdoor industry companies that disburses its collective annual membership dues to grassroots environmental organizations. They direct their funding to community-based campaigns to protect threatened wild habitat, preferably where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. The Alliance was founded in 1989 and now has more than 130 member companies. The Alliance disbursed $900,000 in 2009 and has contributed more than $7 million to conservation projects around North America since its inception.
Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide

The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide gives public interest lawyers and scientists the training and resources they need to help communities protect the environment through law. By giving ELAW partners the legal and scientific support they need, ELAW helps challenge environmental abuses and builds a worldwide corps of skilled, committed advocates working to protect ecosystems and communities for generations to come. The key to their strategy is locating strong lawyers who are committed to protecting the environment in their home countries.
Western Environmental Law Center

The Western Environmental Law Center (WELC) is the West’s leading environmental advocacy center. They are a non-profit public interest law firm dedicated to ensuring that our nation’s environmental laws are obeyed and enforced. WELC provides free or reduced-fee legal services to conservation groups, communities and individuals, challenging corporations and government agencies that violate environmental laws in the West. Their legal advocacy brings about long-lasting protections to preserve the region’s air, water, public lands and forests, wildlife and habitat, and communities.
Wild Salmon Center

Founded in 1992, the Wild Salmon Center is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting Pacific salmon, steelhead, char and trout stocks and their ecosystems. They are committed to identifying the last, best Pacific salmon habitat and devising practical and scientifically sound strategies to protect forever these extraordinary places and their biodiversity. The Wild Salmon Center is the only organization working pro-actively to ensure a sustainable future for salmon across the Pacific Rim. They work in partnership with universities, governments and private organizations – the top experts in salmon and steelhead conservation and management from Russia, Canada, Japan and the United States.

Western Rivers Conservancy

Western Rivers Conservancy protects outstanding river ecosystems in the western United States. The organization acquires land to conserve critical habitat, provide public access for compatible use and enjoyment, and cooperate with other agencies and organizations to secure the health of whole ecosystems. Founded in 1988, Western Rivers Conservancy is the Nation’s only conservation program dedicated solely to the protection of riverlands.
The Native Fish Society

The Native Fish Society (NFS) advocates for the conservation, protection and restoration of native fish populations in the Pacific Northwest. NFS works with public agencies and governments to get native fish conservation policies implemented and to ensure that native fish policies are indeed followed once implemented. NFS is involved in public policy decisions and promotes scientifically-based solutions to fish management problems. The organization also encourages the involvement at both the administrative and personal levels by the public by educating them about the beauty, mystery and value of native fish and their environment.

Oregon Wild

Founded in 1974, Oregon Wild works to protect and restore Oregon’s wild lands, wildlife and waters as an enduring legacy for all Oregonians. Oregon Wild (formerly the Oregon Natural Resources Council) has been instrumental in securing permanent legislative protection for some of Oregon’s most precious landscapes, including nearly 1.5 million acres of wilderness, 95,000 acres of forests in Bull Run/Little Sandy watersheds (to safeguard the quality of Portland’s water supply) and almost 1,700 miles of Wild and Scenic Rivers. As a leader of the national grassroots charge for conservation of roadless areas in our national forests, Oregon Wild helped secure administrative protections for more than 58 million acres of spectacular roadless area across the country. Their wilderness, old-growth forest and clean rivers/watersheds programs protect pristine drinking water, unparalleled recreation opportunities and fish and wildlife habitats across Oregon and the Northwest.
Cascadia Wildlands Project

The Cascadia Wildlands Project’s mission is to protect and restore the forests, waters, and wildlife of Cascadia. The Cascadia Wildlands Project educates, organizes and agitates to protect the ecological integrity of the Cascadia Bioregion. The future they are working toward includes vast hills and valleys of old-growth forests, rivers full of salmon, wolves howling in the mountains, and vibrant communities sustained by these unique landscapes.
The Freshwater Trust

The Freshwater Trust takes a holistic approach to restoring freshwater ecosystems – from restoring a river’s architecture to working with landowners to keep more water in rivers to educating children on the importance of freshwater conservation. The Freshwater Trust was established in 2009 through a merger of Oregon Trout and Oregon Water Trust. Founded in 1983 by a group of flyfishing conservationists, Oregon Trout started the wild fish discussion in the Pacific Northwest, working to protect and restore native fish and their ecosystems. Oregon Water Trust was founded in 1993 to work cooperatively with water users to keep more water in landowners’ rivers and streams. Oregon Water Trust was the first water trust in the United States. While remaining true to both organizations’ original missions, the merge allows The Freshwater Trust to address form, flow and function at the same time – creating an integrated and more effective approach in restoring freshwater health.
Walama Restoration Project

The Walama Restoration Project (WRP) is a community organized non-profit, founded in 2001, and dedicated to the enhancement, rehabilitation, and restoration of the waterways, forest, and grassland ecosystems within and adjacent to the Willamette Valley in Western Oregon. In addition to ecosystem restoration, WRP facilitates environmental education and the fostering of connections between people and the bioregion in which they live. WRP’s promotes the conservation and protection of our natural resources and biological diversity by maintaining and restoring threatened ecosystems in critical watersheds. The organization also implements experiential programs that address local ecosystem awareness and habitat rehabilitation for local youth and community members.
