We are proud to support the folks on the front lines of environmental conservation, preservation, and restoration. In 2007, Tactics gave between $1,000 - $5,000 to each of the following organizations:
SURF/SKATE/SNOW FOCUSED
Surfrider
The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 50,000 members and 80 chapters worldwide. Surfrider is based on several foundational principles, including promoting the right of low-impact, free and open access to the world’s waves and beaches for all people and enhancing wave-riding opportunities in ways which will not adversely impact near-shore ecosystems. Surfrider believes environmental education is essential to the future health and well being of the planet. The organization also seeks to develop and utilize educational materials that are informative, factual, proactive, synergistic and fun. http://www.surfrider.org/
Elemental Awareness
As a non-profit youth based organization, the mission of Elemental Awareness is to reach out to youth through the avenues of skateboarding and education, in order to develop self-esteem, awareness, and the tools to lead successful lives. The organization is founded upon the belief that a person can positively impact their world through active involvement in their passions. Participants in Elemental Awareness programs gain unforgettable life experiences in a myriad of ways including winning scholarships to skate camps, learning about wild animals, meeting professional skateboarders, learning to build natural shelters and friction fires and so much more. http://www.elementalawareness.org/
Save the Waves Coalition
Save the Waves is an environmental coalition dedicated to preserving the world’s surf spots and their surrounding environments. Their goal is to preserve and protect surfing locations around the planet and to educate the public about their value. Save the Waves works in partnership with local communities, foreign and national governments, as well as other conservation groups to prevent coastal development from entering the surf zone. Save the Waves uses many tactics to promote the argument that surf spots have a very high social and economic value. The group’s objective is to achieve the goal of complete surf spot protection. To do so, they often create alliances with local or international environmental organizations, and join forces to create a campaign that will most effectively ensure the protection of surfing resources. http://www.savethewaves.org/
SIMA Environmental Fund
The SIMA Environmental Fund was created to serve as the environmental arm of the Surf Industry Manufacturers Association by raising funds from the public through fundraisers and solicitations and using such funds to promote ecological and environmental organizations whose efforts are focused on enhancing the oceanic environment. The SIMA Environmental Fund operates through a grant-making program as a charitable non-profit foundation. In the past 16 years, more than $2.5 million in grants have been awarded to various environmental groups through the SIMA Environmental Fund. http://www.sima.com/7-charitable_funds/fund1.aspx
Wildcoast
Wildcoast protects and preserves coastal ecosystems and wildlife in California and Latin America by building grassroots support, conducting media campaigns and establishing protected areas. Wildcoast was founded in 2000 in order to protect some of the most ecologically important coastal wild lands, islands and marine areas that remain in California and Baja California. They are home to a variety of endangered marine animals, such as the Eastern Pacific green and loggerhead sea turtles and the last undeveloped gray whale calving site on earth. http://www.wildcoast.net/

Conservation Alliance
The Conservation Alliance’s mission is to engage outdoor businesses to help protect and conserve threatened wild places for their habitat and recreation values. The Alliance is a group of outdoor industry companies that disburses its collective annual membership dues to grassroots environmental organizations. They direct their funding to community-based campaigns to protect threatened wild habitat, preferably where outdoor enthusiasts recreate. The Alliance was founded in 1989 and now has more than 130 member companies. The Alliance disbursed $800,000 in 2007 and has contributed more than $6 million to conservation projects around North America since its inception. http://www.conservationalliance.com/
Western Environmental Law Center
The Western Environmental Law Center (WELC) is the West’s leading environmental advocacy center. They are a non-profit public interest law firm dedicated to ensuring that our nation’s environmental laws are obeyed and enforced. WELC provides free or reduced-fee legal services to conservation groups, communities and individuals, challenging corporations and government agencies that violate environmental laws in the West. Their legal advocacy brings about long-lasting protections to preserve the region’s air, water, public lands and forests, wildlife and habitat, and communities. http://www.westernlaw.org/
Wild Salmon Center
Founded in 1992, the Wild Salmon Center is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting Pacific salmon, steelhead, char and trout stocks and their ecosystems. They are committed to identifying the last, best Pacific salmon habitat and devising practical and scientifically sound strategies to protect forever these extraordinary places and their biodiversity. The Wild Salmon Center is the only organization working pro-actively to ensure a sustainable future for salmon across the Pacific Rim. They work in partnership with universities, governments and private organizations - the top experts in salmon and steelhead conservation and management from Russia, Canada, Japan and the United States. http://www.wildsalmoncenter.org/
Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide
The Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide gives public interest lawyers and scientists the training and resources they need to help communities protect the environment through law. By giving ELAW partners the legal and scientific support they need, ELAW helps challenge environmental abuses and builds a worldwide corps of skilled, committed advocates working to protect ecosystems and communities for generations to come. The key to their strategy is locating strong lawyers who are committed to protecting the environment in their home countries. http://www.elaw.org/

Oregon Wild
Founded in 1974, Oregon Wild works to protect and restore Oregon’s wild lands, wildlife and waters as an enduring legacy for all Oregonians. Oregon Wild (formerly the Oregon Natural Resources Council) has been instrumental in securing permanent legislative protection for some of Oregon’s most precious landscapes, including nearly 1.5 million acres of wilderness, 95,000 acres of forests in Bull Run/Little Sandy watersheds (to safeguard the quality of Portland’s water supply) and almost 1,700 miles of Wild and Scenic Rivers. As a leader of the national grassroots charge for conservation of roadless areas in our national forests, Oregon Wild helped secure administrative protections for more than 58 million acres of spectacular roadless area across the country. Their wilderness, old-growth forest and clean rivers/watersheds programs protect pristine drinking water, unparalleled recreation opportunities and fish and wildlife habitats across Oregon and the Northwest. http://www.oregonwild.org/
Cascadia Wildlands Project
The Cascadia Wildlands Project’s mission is to protect and restore the forests, waters, and wildlife of Cascadia. The Cascadia Wildlands Project educates, organizes and agitates to protect the ecological integrity of the Cascadia Bioregion. The future they are working toward includes vast hills and valleys of old-growth forests, rivers full of salmon, wolves howling in the mountains, and vibrant communities sustained by these unique landscapes. In 2007, the Cascadia Wildlands Project successfully halted the Black Crater post-fire time sale near Sister, Oregon. They also helped kill a bill in Congress that would have sidestepped environmental law to facilitate clear cutting after all natural disturbance events on public lands. Also in 2007, the CWP forced the withdraw of six biological opinions issued by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the federal agency in charge of recovering endangered species. These withdraws halted plans to log tens of thousands of acres of older forest essential to northern spotted owl recovery. http://www.cascwild.org/
Ecotrust
Ecotrust is a conservation organization committed to strengthening communities and the environment from Alaska to California. It was created in 1991 by a small group of diverse people who sought to bring some of the good ideas emerging around sustainability back to the rain forests of home. Ecotrust works with Native peoples and in the fisheries, forestry, and food sectors to build a regional economy based on social and ecological opportunities. http://www.ecotrust.org/
McKenzie River Trust
The McKenzie River Trust is a nonprofit land trust. It was formed in 1989 for the protection of critical habitat and scenic lands in Oregon’s McKenzie basin. The Trust expanded its service area in 2000 to include the Siuslaw, Long Tom, Coast and Middle Forks of the Willamette, and Umpqua watersheds. Over its 18-year history, the Trust has worked with landowners and diverse partnerships to protect over 2,250 acres of special lands in Lane and Douglas Counties. The McKenzie River Trust acquires land through donation, purchase and conservation easements to provide the greatest assurance that sensitive lands are protected in perpetuity. Over the last three and a half years the Trust has successfully raised over $3.4 million to purchase 1,040 acres in the McKenzie basin. These lands are protected and managed by the Trust primarily for wildlife habitat, water quality protection, and scenic values. http://www.mckenzieriver.org/
The North Umpqua Foundation
The North Umpqua Foundation provides assistance for educational, legal, biological and scientific protection of rivers and their anadromous fish. Specifically, the Foundation supports efforts to maintain the historic, scenic, wildlife and fishery values of the North Umpqua River. The Foundation accomplishes its mission through internal initiatives, collaboration and grant making. The North Umpqua Foundation envisions an entire watershed (including aquatic, riparian, terrestrial and marine ecosystems), that is naturally self-sustaining, and a river system that displays a full range of natural biological, morphological and water quality conditions. http://www.northumpqua.org/
Oregon Trout
Oregon Trout works to protect and restore native fish and the habitats upon which they depend. The group focuses its efforts on restoring freshwater health through innovation and education, and they’re not just about fish. Oregon Trout’s goal is simple: return health to every stream in the state, while inviting every student in Oregon to act as stewards of their home waters. http://www.oregontrout.org/
Friends of Land Air Water
Friends of Land Air Water is a non-profit organization that cosponsors (along with the student group Land Air Water) the annual Public Interest Environmental Law Conference (PIELC) at University of Oregon School of Law in Eugene, Oregon. The PIELC is the premier annual gathering for environmentalists worldwide, and is distinguished as the oldest and largest of its kind. The Conference historically unites more than 3,000 activists, attorneys, students, scientists, and concerned citizens from over 50 countries around the globe to share their experience and expertise. Friends of Land Air Water also operates an annual Public Interest Environmental Law Summer Stipend Program, which awards stipends to law students to work in public interest environmental law positions. http://www.pielc.org/
